Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Resuscitation refers to the actions taken to keep a casualty alive after their breathing and heartbeat have stopped. Resuscitation can mean the difference between life and death and early intervention with Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can and will save lives. This course gives participants training, knowledge, and skills in a range of areas including; Basic Life Support, CPR, Defibrillation, and Emergency Care. All Royal Life Saving resuscitation training is delivered in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. A Resuscitation Certificate from Royal Life Saving is recognised as a pre-requisite and a safety standard for many employment categories, industries, and licences.
The Royal Life Saving Resuscitation Award needs to be renewed every 12 months.
The Provide CPR course offers nationally recognised certification and participants may be eligible for accreditation in:
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

Introduction:

The Resuscitation certificate teaches the theoretical and practical experience in the lifesaving techniques of CPR and associated emergency care.
A Resuscitation Certificate from Royal Life Saving is recognised as a pre-requisite and a safety standard for many employment categories and industries.
The RLSSA Resuscitation certificate is valid for one (1) year.

It is recommended that participants are 12 years of age in the calendar year they attempt the course. There is a physical component of this course and participants are required to perform CPR on a resuscitation manikin placed on the ground.

Learning Methods:

Assessment activity 1: Manage an unconscious breathing casualty.
Manage in line with ARC Guidelines, the unconscious breathing casualty including appropriate positioning to reduce the risk of airway compromise (Recover Position)
 
Assessment activity 2: Perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor.
Perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. Demonstrating the following techniques:
- Check for potential dangers.
- Check for response and normal breathing.
- Recognise abnormal breathing.
- Send for help.
- Open and clearing of the airway.
- Using correct hand location.
- Using correct compression rate and depth in line with ARC recommended ratio of compressions and ventilation.
- Follow single rescuer procedure.
- Follow the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to deliver at least one shock.
- Demonstrate a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions.
- Hand over to emergency services
- Provide an accurate verbal incident report.
- Review the incident and participate in a debrief.
 
Assessment activity 3: Perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant manikin placed on a firm surface.
Perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. Demonstrating the following techniques:
- Check for potential dangers.
- Check for response and normal breathing.
- Recognise abnormal breathing.
- Send for help.
- Open and clearing of the airway.
- Using correct hand location.
- Using correct compression rate and depth in line with ARC recommended ratio of compressions and ventilation.
- Follow single-rescuer procedure.
 
Assessment activity 4:  Theory Assessment.
Answer multiple choice theory questions to demonstrate essential knowledge required for the provision of CPR – 100% completion required.
