Supervision Planning Professional Development

The Supervision Planning module is designed for staff tasked with developing and implementing the lifeguard supervision plan at an aquatic facility. While targeted at Facility Managers and Duty Managers, anyone interested in knowing more about the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO), the supervision planning process and how to best lead a lifeguard team will also benefit greatly from completing the module.  The content in the module is based on the Aquatic Supervision Planning guidelines within the GSPO. It presents this information in a practical, easy-to-understand format designed to enable participants to connect and apply the information to their day-to-day work context.  

Introduction:

This module will:
 
ask participants to reflect on their current knowledge, skills and experience developing and implementing supervision plans 
enable participants to better understand, interpret and apply the information contained within the aquatic supervision planning guidelines in the GSPO. 
develop participants’ understanding of the risk management processes in the context of aquatic supervision
step participants through the process of developing a supervision system and supervision plan; highlighting key items for consideration in the planning and ongoing management process
facilitate a deeper understanding of the requirements and challenges of working with lifeguards and fulfilling lifeguard supervisory and management roles.
 
The module is highly visual and interactive and includes a range of activities and exercises to complete in the process of developing and adapting key elements of a supervision plan in response to changing conditions.  Recommended learning time is approximately 50 minutes and to receive a completion certificate participants need to complete the interactive exercises and knowledge checks.
