- Check for potential dangers.
- Check for response and normal breathing.
- Recognise abnormal breathing.
- Send for help.
- Open and clearing of the airway.
- Using correct hand location.
- Using correct compression rate and depth in line with ARC recommended ratio of compressions and ventilation.
- Follow single rescuer procedure.
- Follow the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to deliver at least one shock.
- Demonstrate a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions.
- Hand over to emergency services
- Provide an accurate verbal incident report.
- Review the incident and participate in a debrief.
  • Perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant manikin placed on a firm surface.
 Demonstrating the following techniques:
- Check for potential dangers.
- Check for response and normal breathing.
- Recognise abnormal breathing.
- Send for help.
- Open and clearing of the airway.
- Using correct hand location.
- Using correct compression rate and depth in line with ARC recommended ratio of compressions and ventilation.
- Follow single rescuer procedure.

Assessment activity 2: Reach Rescue Scenario
  • A non-swimmer is in difficulty 2 meter from safety. Demonstrate a reach rescue using an aid. Secure the person at a point of safety.
- Identify the signs of a person experiencing difficulty in the water.
- Identify any immediate hazards.
- Determine appropriate rescue method.
- Determine appropriate rescue equipment and effectively utilise rescue equipment suited to the type of rescue.
- Alert appropriate personnel and call for assistance.
- Communicate effectively with the rescuee, providing clear and concise instructions to the person being rescued.
- Identify and promptly respond to hazards and rescuee conditions that arise during the rescue.
- Remove the person from water safely, efficiently and engaging assistance when available and required.
- Demonstrate fitness and strength throughout the rescue.

Assessment activity 3:  Rope Throw Scenario
  • A person is in difficulty 10-meters from safety. Perform a throwing rescue using an unweighted rope. Secure the person at a point of safety. A time limit of 30 seconds will apply from the start until the person grasps the rope.

Assessment activity 4:  Accompanied Rescue Scenario
  • A weak swimmer is in difficulty 12-metres from safety.  With a floatation aid, enter the water as for unknown conditions, wade 5-8-metres, throw the aid to the person, instruct the person on how to use the aid, accompany the person to safety and instruct the person on how to leave the water.
Assessment activity 5:  Non-Contact Tow Scenario
  • A week or injured swimmer is in difficulty in deep water 25-metres from safety: Swim to the person, demonstrating appropriate precautions. While returning to safety using an appropriate non-contact tow, demonstrate the method of coping with a struggling person. Land the person using a suitable method.
- Remove the person from water safely, efficiently without assistance from another person.
- Demonstrate fitness and strength throughout the rescue.

Assessment activity 6:  Timed Tow
  • An unconscious, breathing person is 50-metres from safety.  Enter the water, swim a 50-metre approach, and tow the person 50-metres to safety.  The participant will commence the rescue wearing swimwear, trousers and long-sleeved shirt, any of which may be discarded as desired.  A time limit of 3 minutes and 15 seconds shall apply from the starting signal until the completion of the tow.
Assessment activity 7:  Recover and Resuscitate Scenario
  • Recover a person simulating unconsciousness from approximately 2-metres depth and tow 10-metres to shallow water or to safety: Assume that it is not possible to remove the person from the water until assistance arrives. Assess for respiratory failure and demonstrate rescue breathing for 1 minute. Once assistance arrives, land the person, and assess DRSABCD. Assume that signs of life are present and then place them in the recovery position.
- Swim 10 meters to the rescuee.
- Tow the rescuee 10 meters to safety.
- Identify and promptly respond to hazards and rescuee conditions that arise during the rescue.
- Provide rescue breaths to the rescuee on the side of the pool.
- Remove the person from water safely, efficiently and engaging assistance from one (1) other person when available and required.
- Assess DRSABCD.
- Position rescuee into the recovery position.
- Participate in a debrief and identify future response improvements.
- Demonstrate fitness and strength throughout the rescue.

Assessment activity 8:  Spinal Management – Vice Grip
  • Apply the vice grip for the immobilization of a spinal injury to the neck and then wade with the casualty for 5-metres.  Summon assistance.
Assessment activity 9:  Spinal Management – Extended Arm Roll
  • Apply an extended arm roll over for the immobilization of a spinal injury to the neck. Summons assistance.
Assessment activity 10:  Survival Skills
  • Dressed in swimwear, trousers and long-sleeved shirt - float using a hand sculling movement for 1 minute and then tread water for 1 minute. Don a PFD and swim 50-metres, demonstrate the HELP position and climb out.
Assessment activity 11:  Scenarios
  • Demonstrate initiative in effecting a rescue of two people who are in difficulty up to 15-metres from safety and whose conditions are unrevealed.  The Assessor will ensure that up to five rescue aids will be available.  The Assessor will brief the subjects on the roles to be simulated from the following
- non-swimmer,
- weak swimmer,
- injured swimmer,
- person with a suspected spinal injury,
- unconscious person.
On completion of this task, the participant will participate in a debrief.

Assessment activity 12:  Incident report based on Recover and Resuscitate Scenario
  • Accurate completion of a written incident documentation in accordance with organisational procedures.
Assessment activity 13:  Theory Assessment
